This subject matter for me screams a rock solid tune. I ran quite a few tracks through virtual guitar amps to get more of a rock feel to the sound. Lyrics came first, as is often the case for this record, and 120 BPM felt just right. Maybe one day a metal band will cover this without any synths. I would get a kick out of that.
